| First ever Aussie rules game in Split !
The first ever game of Australian rules football in the Croatian coastal city of Split took place on Satruday March 31, between the Zagreb Hawks and the reigning BARFL premiers, the West London Wildcats. In ideal conditions, the guests from England quickly scored the first 2 goals and dominated play. However, the team from Zagreb (helped along by 2 guest players) turned the result around and actually lead at quarter time! It didn?t last though as a larger fond of players and greater experience allowed the Wildcats to dominate the remaining 3 quarters and finish the game 44 points in front. It must be mentioned that most of the Wildcats players have 15 years footy experience whilst the Zagreb outfit had only 4 Australian born players (without club level experience) and 5 locals playing their first ever game of Australian rules!
The game was organized in the city of Split with the intention of further promoting the game and encouraging the forming of a second club in Croatia. |
